Mumbai CEC

The Conservation Education Centre (CEC) of BNHS stands tall amidst lush green cover at Goregaon, abutting the biodiverse forests of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. In 1983, the Maharashtra Government, at the behest of the Government of India, offered the land in recognition of the Society’s 100 years of service in nature conservation.

Since 1993, when the centre began its activities, it has worked towards creating awareness and concern about nature in students, educators, government employees, corporate bodies and the lay person. The diverse activities at CEC from walks to workshops to certificate courses draw scores of visitors every year. The centre particularly strives to make conservation education accessible to the underprivileged students.

The certificate courses conducted by the centre every year in subjects such as ornithology, herpetology, biodiversity conservation, butterfly studies, botany and marine conservation are very popular. Anyone with interest and a basic qualification (Class X) can apply for the courses.

Mumbai CEC remains a platform for corporate social responsibility activities.

About BNHS Conservation Education Centre (CEC Mumbai) / BNHS Nature Reserve

BNHS CEC Mumbai is a 33-acre forest reserve that serves as a habitat for Mumbai’s leopards and diverse biodiversity. Situated between Sanjay Gandhi National Park and the urban forest of Film City, it is one of Mumbai’s pioneering environmental education centers. Since its inception, CEC Mumbai has played a crucial role in raising awareness about the city’s biodiversity through nature trails, workshops for educators, corporate CSR programmes, and various public outreach initiatives. CEC Mumbai also plays a pivotal role in offering BNHS online-hybrid courses, allowing participants from across India to engage in structured biodiversity education. These courses provide valuable opportunities for individuals who may not have access to in-person training.
